Bridge Day Receives 2011 Environmental Award
New River Gorge, West Virginia – Bridge Day has been chosen to receive the West Virginia Association of Fairs & Festivals 2011 Environmental Fair & Festival Award. The award recognizes a WV Fair or Festival that is providing innovative, educational and effective ways to preserve the beautiful West Virginia mountain environment during their event.
Debra Gard, Executive Director of the WV Association of Fairs & Festivals, praised Bridge Day for their efforts in taking that first step of using recycled shirts, collecting all recycled material, and educating event goers about the importance of environmental stewardship.
According to Cindy Dragan, Bridge Day Chair, “This award is shared with all of the organizations that come together to help with the greening of Bridge Day. It was truly a team endeavor and Bridge Day would like to thank Sustain U, the Fayette County GREAT Team, Plateau Action Network, the town of Fayetteville, and the Boy Scouts that help with the recycling. This is only the first step of what we hope will be an ongoing effort to help reduce the footprint of Bridge Day and make it a national ‘Green Festival’”.
Plans are underway for the 2011 celebration slated for Saturday, October 15, 2011 in Fayetteville. The event will continue its environmental focus with expanded recycling efforts and the second shirt in the Green Initiative Collectors’ series that sold out in 2010.
